NATCHEZ — The schools may be spread across the county, but today, parents in the Natchez-Adams County School District can visit them all in one place.

From 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Steckler Multipurpose Center, the NASD will host its annual A Day in the Natchez-Adams School District event for parents and children in the school district.

The day is a way for parents and students to get a lot of information in one place, Natchez Schools Federal Programs Director Marilyn Turner said.

“We have many parents who have children in several different schools,” she said. “This program allows them to register all of their children. It’s a one-stop shop.”

A registration packet must be filled out for each student registering in the school district.

This is also the time when parents need to fill out applications for free or reduced-price lunches, Turner said. Unlike registration, only one lunch form should be filled out for each household.

On top of registration and lunch information, information on attendance, bus transportation, dress code, school activities, schedules, extracurricular activities and nutrition information will be available.

While the 12-hour day will be long, Turner said it is necessary to keep the doors open into the evening hours to make sure everyone has a chance to stop by.

“We want to make it to where it is easy for all the parents,” she said. “We don’t want someone to miss this chance.”

The principals from each school will be at the event to meet parents and students before the school year starts. Parent liaisons from each school will also be there to hand out information about their specific school. While a wealth of information will be available, Turner said there is one table that sees a lot of traffic.

“People want their school supplies list,” Turner said.

The annual event has always been well received, Turner said, and she expects the same this year.

“Last year we had people in the parking lot at 6:30 in the morning waiting to get in,” Turner said. “We always have a great response.”

They seem to really appreciate the effort to get all this information in one place for them.”
