The Mississippi State Department of Health reported an additional 361 new COVID-19 cases Sunday bringing the total cases to 25,892. The state estimates more than 17,000 of those cases have fully recovered.
The number of new cases is significantly less than 1,092 cases that were reported on Thursday.
The state announced Sunday 4 new deaths were attributed to the virus bringing the total death toll to 1,039.
Mississippi’s 7-day average of new cases rose to 560 per day, a new record high. The 7-day average is more than double was it was just three weeks ago on June 7.
Mississippi’s death toll from coronavirus includes 511 people from long-term care facilities or 49.2 percent of the total deaths.
On Sunday the state reported 676 patients were hospitalized that either had confirmed COVID-19 or were suspected of having the virus, but hadn’t been confirmed by a test. That number was down from the previous several days.
