NATCHEZ — Local Hampton Inn officials said there are no plans to close the hotel on Canal Street despite a recent foreclosure notice in the newspaper.

Patricia Cothren, general manager of the Natchez Hampton Inn, said the hotel owners are working with the bank to forgo any action.

A foreclosure notice ran in the legal section in Wednesday’s edition of The Natchez Democrat. The notice set a July 9 sale of the property and its contents on the steps of the Adams County Courthouse.

Cothren said the hotel hopes to have everything resolved in the coming days.

“The hotel will not be up for auction,” Cothren said.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Cothren said the hotel has seen a significant drop in customers.

Cothren said the hotel has stayed open during the pandemic as a service to the community and in order to support the hotel staff. But staying open has come at a cost, Cothren said.

“The unforeseen situation (associated with the virus) led to a loss of revenue,” Cothren said.

Cothren said the pandemic came at the time of the year when the hotel typically sees some of it biggest revenue.

The annual Natchez Spring Pilgrimage and other annual events were canceled after the city and state shutdown the economy because of the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus.
