Adams County James Lee reported the death of a 69-year-old black female from COVID-19 Saturday afternoon.

Lee said the woman from Natchez died at Merit Health Natchez at 1:20 p.m. Saturday.

“I cannot express how important it is for us to continues to abide by CDC guidelines for this disease,” Lee said in a news release. “It is not dormant and we are still seeking a vaccine (cure).”

The death marks the 18th death from COVID-19 in Adams County. The death has yet to be recorded with the Mississippi Department of Health which currently reports 17 deaths in the county.

According to the Mississippi Department of Health 225 cases of the coronavirus have been reported in Adams County. Forty-three of the cases are in long-term care facilities.
