NATCHEZ — Zavion Patterson plays football and basketball for Natchez High School and perhaps his biggest cheerleader is his older sister, Ja’Kira Price, who was a cheerleader for the Natchez High teams.
When The Dart landed Wednesday afternoon near Alabama Street in Natchez, Price and Patterson were sitting on the front porch of their house.
Patterson is a sophomore at Natchez High. In the fall, Patterson will play wide receiver and cornerback for the Bulldogs football team. In the winter, Patterson will play either point guard or shooting guard for the Bulldogs boys basketball team.
When he is not playing sports, Patterson said his favorite subject in school is math.
“I like math because it is easy for me,” Patterson said.
Meanwhile, Price said she loved everything about cheerleading for Natchez High.
“From the practices to bonding with the cheer team and the games,” Price said of her love for cheerleading. “Basketball was my favorite season because it was always more interesting and I knew what was going on.”
Price plans to attend Mississippi State University in the fall, where she said she plans to study biology. Price said she wants to become an obstetrics nurse, a registered nurse who helps care for female patients during pregnancy, labor and childbirth.
“I’m ready to start my life and be doing bigger and better things away from Natchez,” Price said.
