NATCHEZ — Residents waited in a long line Tuesday morning to get driver’s licenses, permits and other services at the local Mississippi Driver License Station.

The line started forming as early as 7:30 a.m. Tuesday and moved slowly as officials limited the number of customers who could enter the building, in adherence to COVID-19 guidelines set by the state.

Many waited in line for nearly three hours before being served.

Driver’s License Stations throughout the state re-opened on Monday after being closed by the state in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The stations will provide a limited number of services, including:

  • Commercial driver’s license transactions
  • Out of state transfers
  • New credentials
  • New identification card credentials
  • Security guard permits
  • Sex offender registration
  • Student permit testing
  • Reinstatements
  • Ignition-interlock restricted licenses

Renewal and duplicate driver’s licenses, ID cards and address changes will not be available at driver license stations until further notice. Those services will be available online at www.dps.ms.gov.

Customers will be required to visit stations on the days of the week according to the first letter of their last name using the following schedule:

  • Monday: A-E
  • Tuesday: F-L
  • Thursday: M-S
  • Friday: T-Z

On Wednesdays, the stations will be open for “Walk-In” customers.

The Natchez station is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

MDPS officials ask that customers refrain from bringing passengers not in need of services.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic all road tests for non-commerical drivers will be waived until further notice. Drivers under the age of 18 will be required to submit an affidavit completed by a parent or guardian certifying that the drivers have completed 50 hours of supervised driving time. The affidavit is available at www.dps.ms.gov.
