PORT GIBSON — Graveside services for Cornelies Thompson, 95, of Port Gibson, who died Sunday, May 31, 2020, in Port Gibson will be at Hollywood Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Kelvin Winters officiating.

Burial will follow at the cemetery under the directions of West Gate Funeral Home-Fayette Branch.

Cornelies was born May 14, 1924, in Lorman, the daughter of Bob Robinson and Gertrude Bailey Robinson. She was educated in Lorman and was a housewife. At an early age, Mrs. Thompson was baptized at Jessamine Ridge Baptist Church in Lorman. After moving to Claiborne County, she united with Greater St. Mark under the leadership of Rev. W. C. Mazique where she served as senior choir president for over 25 years. Later, she united with First Baptist Church in Port Gibson under the leadership of Rev. Kevin Winters. Cornelies enjoyed singing, cooking and feeding everyone. Attending church services was her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nemiah Thompson, Sr.; her parents and her grandson, Taranell Thompson.

Cornelies leaves to cherish her memories, two sons, Nemiah Thompson, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Detroit, MI and John Thompson of Natchez; two daughters, Kathleen Thompson of Port Gibson and Erika King of Vicksburg, 11 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren. She also leaves not to mourn, but to rejoice in her memory, the First Baptist Church family whom she has always loved and a plethora of nieces, nephews, acquaintances and friends.
