NATCHEZ — Mississippi Blood Services will host a blood drive from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday at Sweet River Nutrition in Natchez.

The blood drive is to get blood for Maggie Whitehead, an Adams County Christian School student, who was injured in car wreck on Kingston Road on her way to work at Sweet River Nutrition on Monday morning.

Waylon Whitehead, Maggie’s father, said Maggie injured her spine in two places, her collarbone, four ribs on her left side and three ribs on her right side and punctured her left lung in the car crash.

Waylon said Maggie’s condition has started to improve.

“The doctors started a very light physical therapy with her on Tuesday evening,” Waylon said. “She immediately took off after that. The doctors took her test tube out a little while ago on Wednesday. She may get to go home Thursday. But will be in a wheelchair and a back brace.”

Sheri Book, the Southwest representative for Mississippi Blood Services, said she wanted to help both Maggie Whitehead and the Whitehead family.

“The first time I came to Natchez to Sweet River Nutrition, she was a great and a loving individual,” Book said. “I hope the blood drive brings the community and the school together. I want to make sure the blood will be for her.”

Additionally, there will be another blood drive from noon to 6 p.m. on May 12 at Adams County Christian School.

Kim Prather is the owner at Sweet River and said Maggie Whitehead has worked for Sweet River for almost three years.

Prather said she has become good friends with Book, and they have done many blood drives at Sweet River.

“We just wanted to help Maggie in case she or anybody else may need blood,” Prather said. “We can help any person nationwide so I’m excited for the blood drive. Maggie is one of the kindest and sweetest souls I have met. We love and miss her and hope for a speedy recovery and all of us are waiting for her to come back to work. All of the employees at Sweet River are saving all of their tips to give to her family.”
