NATCHEZ — Miss-Lou football fans said they were happy with some of the developments over last weekend’s NFL Draft.

LSU and New Orleans Saints fans in particular said they were excited to watch the 2020 NFL Draft last Thursday through Saturday.

In total, NFL teams drafted 14 LSU players. Five Mississippi State University players and one Southern Miss player were drafted in the NFL Draft as well. No Ole Miss players were drafted in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Craig Guillory, an LSU fan, said seeing the number of LSU players chosen in the draft was incredible and he felt was warranted with the success LSU had as a team.

“I really felt like this was one of the top three most dominant national-champion teams that I’ve seen in my lifetime,” Guillory said. “The numbers didn’t surprise me. What surprised me was the way that some of the individual players rose up in the rounds. It was surprising but very gratifying to see.”

Joe Burrow, who was the quarterback and the Heisman award winner for LSU, was drafted as the No. 1 pick by the Cincinnati Bengals.

In the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, NFL teams drafted four more LSU players.

“I’m actually excited about how it went especially for my beloved LSU,” said Marie Bullock, an LSU fan. “Although there were a couple things that disappointed me, I am so proud of my Tigers that made it and happy for them.”

In total, NFL teams in the Midwest, such as the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals, drafted four different LSU players. The Cleveland Browns drafted two LSU players, Grant Delpit and Jacob Phillips.

“It definitely appears like Cleveland is going to force me to be a Browns fan because the way they keep drafting LSU players,” Guillory said. “Of course, every Tigers fan will be pulling for the Bengals when Joe Burrow takes the reins in Cincinnati.”

In the 2020 NFL Draft, the Saints had four picks out of the 255 draft picks in the seven rounds.

With the No. 24 pick in the first round of the NFL Draft, the Saints picked up Cesar Ruiz, an offensive linemen from Michigan.

Thomas Williams, a New Orleans Saints fan, said he was pretty happy with the first-round pick of Ruiz.

“He was so excited to be on the team,” Williams said. “I feel like we have a pretty solid offensive line to help Brees out.”

With the upcoming collegiate and NFL season, both LSU and New Orleans fans are optimistic about their teams’ prospects.

Clay Floyd, a New Orleans Saints fan, said he is excited about the Saints upcoming season.

“I’m excited to see what they can do this year,” Floyd said. “I think everyone around the organization sees that Drew Brees’ time is coming to an end. If they are going to make a run with him as the quarterback, then they will have to put all the cards on the table this year.”

As a new collegiate season is on the horizon, Bullock said she is optimistic about the next season for the defending champions.

“I think you have to consider the facts that our 2019 team was so good, strong and rich with talent,” Bullock said. “After the final results from last season, all the NFL teams wanted a piece of it. I wholeheartedly believe that it’s just part of the culture at LSU. I hope that each team has a true belief in themselves and they never give up. I believe LSU will do fine next season.”
