NATCHEZ — Graveside services for Thomas “Smooth” Ellis, 72, of Natchez, who passed at his residence in Natchez on April 22, 2020, will be on Thursday, April 30, 2020, at Natchez City Cemetery in Natchez, at 11 a.m. with burial immediately following officiated by Rev. Ernest Ford Jr. Walk-through-only visitation services will take place on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at Marshall Funeral Home Chapel Natchez, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home Natchez.

Thomas was born in Adams County, on April 26, 1947, to Mabel Ellis.

He was a faithful member of the Most Worshipful King David Grand Lodge, A., F. & A.M. INC. serving as Grand Secretary of the State; AMB Association; Secretary of the Deacon Progressive Club; and Superintendent of Sunday School and Deacon at New Zion #1 Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lutisha Hutchins; one stepson, Patrick Henderson; and one brother-in-law, Cornel Johnson.

Thomas leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Artie Ellis that he was the best husband to; mother, Mable Ellis; three children: Stella (Ronnie) Rice, Vanessa A. Greene, and Walter (Tory) Polk III, all of Natchez; he was Paw Paw to seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and special, Jurnee M. Anderson; two sisters, Linda Johnson of New Orleans, Louisiana and Jacqueline Ellis of Natchez; one brother, Attorney John Ellis of Monroe, Louisiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was a devoted family man who loved them very much and will be greatly missed.
