Mississippi State Health Department officials announced Thursday morning the highest single-day jump in confirmed COVID-19 coronavirus cases.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Mississippi increased by 257 to a total of 2,260 cases since March 11. The state also reported an additional 9 deaths in the state due to the virus.

Health department officials report 76 people have died as result of the virus.

The number of Adams County case also increased by two cases to a total of 27 cases. One death was also reported in Adams County.

In Wilkinson County the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases rose by four cases to a total of 37 cases in the county.

State health officials also track the number of long-term care facilities in each county that are considered high risk due to their residents being in close confines, often being older and often having underlying health issues.

In Adams County, MSDH reports that two long-term care facilities in the county have had outbreaks of COVID-19.

For the sake of reporting, the state considers even a single case of coronavirus among staff or residents of these facilities as an “outbreak” and are tracked by county below.
