NATCHEZ — Walgreens at 49 Seargent S. Prentiss Drive abruptly closed its doors Monday, placing a sign in the door telling customers the store is temporarily closed and directing them to the Walgreens at 303 Devereaux Drive.
A Walgreens corporate spokesperson confirmed Tuesday morning that the Seargent S. Prentiss Drive location was closed because a worker there had tested positive for COVID-19.
“We are committed to providing a safe environment for our customers and team members,” said Rebekah Pajak, senior manager, Pharmacy and Operations Communications. “Walgreens was notified recently that a team member who works in a Natchez, Mississippi, store has a confirmed case of COVID-19. The individual has not been in the store since March 26.
“In accordance with our established protocols and CDC guidance, we took immediate action to temporarily close the store for cleaning in order to disinfect the premises. We promptly notified the local public health department. We have contacted impacted individuals who may be at risk and they are self-quarantined.”
Pajak said the store is expected to reopen Wednesday and customers with questions should call the Mississippi State Department of Health COVID-19 hotline 877-978-6453.
