NATCHEZ — Natchez golfers are excited by the opportunity to watch 90 professional women golfers participate in the Taco Bell Natchez Golf Classic beginning on March 17 at Beau Pre Country Club.
Kayla Starr, a girl’s golfer for Cathedral High School, said she plans to go and watch the women golfers play.
“It’s exciting because it helps promote women’s golf in our area,” Starr said. “It’ll be fun to see some professional women golfers playing in person.”
The field for the Women’s All Pro Tour features 90 women golf professionals from around the world. Five out of the eight 2019 top-money winners will compete, including money leader Binny Lee from Frisco, Texas.
Other professional players include Britney Yada (Hilo, Hawaii), Riley Rennell (Columbia, Tennessee), Valeria Tanguay (Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec) and Elaine Wood (Spanish Fort, Alabama).
The winners will take a minimum of $7,500 guaranteed and an exemption into the Symetra Tour’s Windsor Classic in Windsor, California.
“The golf classic should inspire some junior female golfers,” said David Myer, golf professional at Beau Pre Country Club. “The women golf professionals are really good. I think anybody that comes out and wants to follow some of the players, they’re going to be impressed.”
Beau Pre Country Club is no stranger to hosting events like the Taco Bell Natchez Golf Classic.
Last year, Beau Pre hosted the men’s Taco Bell Natchez Golf Classic. Over 100 professional men’s golfers competed in the golf classic.
Bill Dale is a local golfer in Natchez. On Wednesday, Dale was hitting golf balls on the practice green at Beau Pre Country Club.
For the golf classic next week, Dale said he his housing three professional women golfers.
“I’m trying to support the club and a lot of these girls don’t have the financing to do this and it’s tough on them,” Dale said. “Some of them send in a request for free housing. It helps the women because it lowers their expenses.”
There will be a full slate of activities throughout the week. The Taco Bell Natchez Golf Classic is free to the public.
Round one will begin at 7:30 a.m. March 17 on No. 1 and No. 10 tees.
