HINESTON, La. — The Oak Hill High School Lady Rams used a six-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning to defeat the Monterey High School Lady Wolves 8-2 Tuesday afternoon in an LHSAA District 6-B game.
“It was a 2-2 game going into the bottom of the sixth. They had a three-run home run,” said Cary Shivley, Lady Wolves head coach.
In addition to this being a loss in its district opener, it was the first loss of the season for Monterey.
Oak Hill jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning before Monterey responded with a two-run rally in the top of the fourth. Hannah Hitt singled to bring in Allie Lipsey and a fielder’s choice by Sarah Jane Gray scored Maddy Green.
Then in the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Rams exploded for six runs, highlighted by a three-run home run by Borschert.
The Lady Wolves lost the game despite out-hitting the Lady Rams nine to five.
Defense was a big factor as the Lady Wolves committed seven errors while the Lady Rams had no errors.
Green went 3-for-3 with a double and one run scored while Meah Peoples went 2-for-3. In addition to her home run, Borschert had a double and went 2-for-4 with five runs batted in to lead Oak Hill at the plate.
Avery Cupit was charged with the loss after allowing five runs, only one earned, on four hits and two walks over five and one-third innings. B. Johnson gave up two earned runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and no walks in a complete-game outing for the Lady Rams
