NATCHEZ — The famous children’s book author Dr. Seuss once said, “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”
This weekend, those who love Dr. Seuss can steer themselves in the direction of Judge George W. Armstrong Library for Dr. Seuss’s Birthday Celebration, which starts at 11 a.m. this Saturday.
Program coordinator Jessica Hawkins said the birthday party is free and open to all age groups.
“There is no limit, no minimum or max-age. All are welcome,” Hawkins said.
One of the library’s staff members, Hawkins said, will be dressed to portray one of Dr. Seuss’s most beloved characters, “The Cat in the Hat,” followed by a cooking demonstration led by Jarita Frazier-King of Natchez Heritage School of Cooking.
“It will all be upstairs in the library where we’ll have music and story time with ‘The Cat in the Hat,’ a live cooking demonstration centered around ‘Green Eggs and Ham,’ crafting, photos and so much more,” Hawkins said.
The library will continue to stay open from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, Hawkins said, adding program attendees are welcome to stick around before and after the celebration to check out books and utilize the library’s resources.
“We invite everyone to come out and celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss with us,” Hawkins said. “It’s going to be a wonderful time and our director, Pam Plummer, is so excited for the public to join us in the fun that we’re going to have this Saturday.”
