Errors, strikeouts cost Vidalia High baseball win against Grant High School

VIDALIA — Three errors by Vidalia High School led the Grant High School Cougars to earn a 6-1 victory on Monday night.
An error by Vikings’ Xander Harveston in the second inning led to the Cougars’ first run. Adam Eames and CJ Chatman each committed an error in the game as well.
The Cougars scored two more runs in the third inning. A passed ball scored Grant High’s Caden Futrell from third. An RBI single by Brady Parker scored the second run in the inning and stretched the Cougars lead to three runs.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Brandon Bozeman hit a single for the Vikings. A batter later, Bozeman stole second and third in the inning. Bozeman scored the Vikings lone run on an error by Cougars second baseman Braden Robeau.
Jacob Mercer scored the Cougars’ fourth run with a single to center field in the top of the sixth.
For the Cougars (4-0), Parker pitched six innings and struck out 11 batters. He allowed one run and gave up one hit. Wesley Futrell came in to pitch in the seventh inning and struck out three batters and gave up one hit.
The Vikings (0-4) managed to hit two singles in the game. Bozeman and Chatman each hit a single in the game.
Vidalia High host Family County Christian School (2-1) at 6 p.m. today at Cliff Merrit Memorial Field in Vidalia.
