NATCHEZ — Office Depot is closing its Natchez location in April.
The Natchez Mall store on John R. Junkin Drive put up signs announcing the closing of the store on Thursday.
Senior Manager of Public Relations Sarah England said the store will be closing on April 4.
“Office Depot, Inc. continues to optimize its retail footprint,” England said in an email. “We will continue to serve our customers online at officedepot.com.”
The local store was constructed next to the former JC Penney store in 2007 and opened in 2008. Since then, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet has moved into a portion of the JC Penny space after the JC Penny closed in 2014.
According to Business Insider, the company closed more than 50 stores in 2019, including stores in Columbus, Mississippi, and Memphis, Tennessee.
The company recently announced it was closing an additional 90 locations by 2021, a part of the company’s efforts to refocus its attention on business-to-business services.
The office supplies company operates under both its namesake and Office Max names.
At its peak in 2006, the company’s stock price reached nearly $44 per share. On Thursday, the company’s stock price closed at $2.20.
