Natchez — Funeral services for Mary Edna Squalls Stewart, 71, of Madison, Mississippi, formerly of Natchez, who died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020, in Natchez will be 11 a.m. Friday at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with Bishop Stanley Searcy officiating.

Burial will follow at Greater St. Mark Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and will continue from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Ms. Stewart was born July 22, 1948, in Natchez, the daughter of Phillip Squalls and Ollie Singleton Squalls. She attended college and received a bachelor’s degree. She enjoyed reading and solving crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Gloria Jean Squalls; brothers, Bernard Squalls and Michael Squalls; and nephew, Anthony Terrell Squalls.

Mary leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Cassandra Denise Thornton and husband Basil; brothers, Samuel Squalls and Robert Squalls; grandchildren, Chasmine Squalls and Ariel Thornton; great-grandchild, Brian “Tre” Mozee and other relatives and friends.
