NATCHEZ — St. Mary’s Catholic Youth Organization is sponsoring a Mother Son Mardi Gras “MOMbeau” from 6 to 8 tonight at the O’Connor Family Life Center, 613 Main St.
“There really is nothing else in town that is geared toward mothers and sons,” said Carrie Lambert, CYO organizer. “There are some father-daughter things. It is going to be a wonderful time so (mothers) can make special memories with their sons. It is just going to be fun like any Mardi Gras ball is. . . . It is a dance with a secondline and stuff like that.”
Lambert said the event is open to anyone but is geared toward younger mothers with younger sons 3 years old and up to eighth-grade.
“It is for mothers or mother figures,” Lambert said. “So one ticket is for one adult and as many sons as she has but in today’s day and age it isn’t always the mom. It could be the grand mom that is the mother figure for the son.”
Tickets are $20 for advance family tickets and $30 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at St. Mary Basilica’s church office or from a member of St. Mary’s CYO.
Proceeds, Lambert said, will benefit the CYO’s ongoing community programs.
The Catholic Youth Organization helps a lot of people throughout the year,” Lambert said. “. . . Our youth programs are geared toward putting faith in action.”
Services and activities throughout the year include working at the Stewpot, delivering poinsettias to the homebound, collecting donations for the Natchez Adams County Humane Society and the Stewpot.
“A lot of them (CYO participants) learn about their faith through school or through their churches or at home,” Lambert said. “We try to actually put our faith in action with the kids by doing very good work like working at the Stewpot or going to the nursing home and bringing little bags of cheer that we did this year and singing with them. During the spring we will go to some older parishioners’ homes and do some yard work for them and we deliver poinsettias around Christmas, just little simple things for people who are homebound make such a difference and don’t just help people who are homebound.”
The Mother Son Mardi Gras MOMbeau will be from 6 to 8 tonight, Friday, Feb. 7, at the O’Connor Family Life Center, 613 Main Street. The event is designed for Moms and their Sons from 3 years of age through eighth-grade.
Tickets start at $20 for advance family tickets and $30 at the door. Tickets can be purchased online at St. Mary Basilica’s church office or from a member of St. Mary’s CYO.
