County trash back on schedule

NATCHEZ — Trash pick-up in Adams County should be back on a regular schedule now that the Christmas and New Year holidays are over, officials said, adding residents should contact the sanitation department or their district supervisor if that is not the case.
Adams County Administrator Joe Murray said he noticed a complaint Tuesday on social media from an Adams County resident that stated their trash still wasn’t picked up even though the holidays were over.
“Usually when there is a problem, we know about it because we get phone calls,” Murray said. “If no one calls, then we don’t know there is an issue.”
Murray said he shared the complaint with the Board of Supervisors and hadn’t heard of any other calls about missed pick-ups since last week, which were perhaps due to missed information about the holiday schedule.
Pick-ups during the holiday weeks should have been one day behind their scheduled day — on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 for those who normally have theirs picked up on Wednesdays and Dec. 27 and Jan. 3 for those who would normally have theirs picked up on Thursdays according to a link posted on the Adams County website.
Murray said those who sign up for CodeRED would also receive notifications about changes in the trash collection schedule.
“We did receive a few calls because of the holiday schedule, which we try to get out by posting on our website,” Murray said. “Unfortunately not everybody has web access or is able to look it at it beforehand, but we do all we can do.”
In December 2018, the county switched sanitation service providers from Waste Pro to Metro Service Group.
During the transition, garbage collection may have been a little spotty as new workers adjusted to the area.
Murray said anyone with missed collection days should contact the sanitation department at 601-304-8022. More information can be found at adamscounty.ms.net.
