NATCHEZ– Louis Richard DeVries, 73, of Natchez, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2019, at his residence.
A musician, Louie graduated from the University of Akron and received a master’s degree in music from the University of Michigan and from Kent State University in library science. He played in several orchestras, most recently the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and Rapides Symphony Orchestra. He also conducted the St. Joseph Orchestra and St. Joseph Jazzers. In addition to his musical activities, Louie was for seven years, a librarian at the Judge George Armstrong Library and until a few weeks ago, a Natchez tour guide.
He is survived by his wife, Allyn Baranoff DeVries; two sisters, Patricia Gold and husband, David, and Denise Phares and husband, Michael; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Foundation for Cancer Research.
