Team, fans react to Ferriday’s state championship win Friday

FERRIDAY — As the final horn sounded to end the Class 2A state championship game between Ferriday High Trojans and Many High Tigers, Trojan players stormed the field with a 56-17 victory on the scoreboard Friday evening in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
When the trophy presentation to the Trojans was over, Trojans’ Kylyn Lewis ran around with the trophy and showed off to fans in the stands.
During the game, Lewis wracked up 10 tackles and one sack, which led to a Tigers fumble.
“It means the world to me to be a state champion,” Lewis said. “I love this game. It means the world to me.”
For Ferriday High, this is the Trojans’ fifth state championship, the first since 1956 and Trojans Head Coach Stanley Smith’s first state championship.
“I can’t explain how hard these kids work all year long,” Smith said. “I preach to them all year. They worked hard, and it came through tonight with the state championship victory. I can’t ask for anything else.”
The stands of the Superdome had a strong showing of Ferriday fans who cheered on the Trojans throughout the game.
Trojans fan Alvin Garrison was able to watch the game from the sidelines. He said winning the state championship felt great for Ferriday today.
“Our fans and our players deserve everything,” Garrison said. “They players worked hard, put in the time and it paid off. It’s just not only big for Ferriday but also for all of Concordia Parish. All of the schools in the parish supported Ferriday when we needed it the most.”
Kobe Dillon had sensational game in the Class 2A state championship game, throwing for 174 yards, two touchdowns and running for two touchdowns. Dillon is a senior for the Trojans.
“My dream came true,” Dillon said. “The way we worked hard all season. I was happy that we won the championship game today.”
Smith said he was excited to see the fans pack the Superdome with the Trojans’ colors of black and gold. He added the fans have followed the team all year, no matter where the Trojans played.
“We really feed off of our fans’ energy in the championship game,” Smith said.
