NATCHEZ — The Adams County Christian Rebels will host five boys’ soccer teams for the 12th annual ACCS Christmas Season Shootout on Saturday.
The five teams attending Saturday’s Shootout are Cathedral, ACCS, Parklane Academy, Brookhaven Academy and Washington High School. Rebels Head Coach Jimmy Allgood said this tournament has lasted since the beginning of the soccer program.
“This is a chance, before going into Christmas break, for many teams from different districts and parts of the state, to come together,” Allgood said. “It’s a great showcase and great tournament. We’re proud to put it on each and every year.”
All teams will play two matches and the top two teams with the best records will face in the championship game at 4:30 p.m.
Cathedral Green Wave Head Coach Dennis Hogue said the Green Wave have played in this tournament for eight years. In years past, the Green Wave have either won it, finished as runner-ups or finished far down the list. Hogue said there’s no reason why not to participate in the Shootout.
“They [ACCS) are right here in town and we like to go to tournaments,” Hogue said. “It’s a win-win because we don’t have to travel. We also want to support our neighbors. Plus it makes it easy for the parents.”
The Shootout will begin at 10 a.m. with a match between Cathedral and Parklane Academy. Then, at 11 a.m. the Rebels will face Brookhaven Academy. At noon, Oak Forest Academy will play against Washington High School.
Allgood said the match between Brookhaven represents a district match, since a previous match between the two teams was rained out earlier this season.
“I would like to invite everybody to come out and enjoy,” Allgood said. “We will have concessions and a great time for folks to come out and see several local teams and soccer teams from across the state and in Louisiana. It’s a good fundraiser for our boys’ soccer team like we do for the girls every year.”
