We have many things for which to give thanks

Thanksgiving is upon us.
Many people are traveling today to be with family, friends and loved ones.
Still others are hosting visitors with traditional Thanksgiving feasts and will no doubt be gathering in front of televisions later in the day to enjoy football games, such as the annual Egg Bowl between Mississippi State and Ole Miss.
As we gather, let us not forget the spirit of the season — Thanksgiving — not only in our personal lives but also as a nation and a community.
As a community, we have much to be thankful for this season with several positive community developments in the business and industry, not the least of which is the recent news that Dunleith will be reopening soon as an inn, restaurant and event venue.
As a nation, our national economy is strong and joblessness is at a near-record low, despite any struggles in Washington, D.C.
Also, let us not forget those people who are less fortunate than us this holiday season.
Consider donating to one of the many local charities this Christmas season to help make the season bright for those who may not be enjoying the prosperity of the day.
And, as we begin our holiday shopping season with Black Friday, don’t forget to shop locally.
Spending your holiday money at home in local shops helps the local economy.
Before you jump online to do your shopping be sure to check the local businesses for their merchandise and spend as much of your Christmas shopping budgets as possible locally.
That will ensure a merry Christmas and a happy New Year for the community.
Today, we are thankful for you, our readers, who support our community newspaper. Our job is to provide you with news and unique stories about right here at home. We appreciate your readership and support.
