Delta Charter Storm and Ferriday High Trojans are the last two Miss-Lou football teams still alive in the playoffs.

The Game of the Week is the No. 19 Delta Charter Storm vs. No. 3 White Castle Bulldogs.

The Storm were able to earn a 42-38 upset win over the No. 14 Plain Dealing High Lions last Friday night. This was the first time the Storm have moved past the first round in the Louisiana High School Athletics Association Class 1A playoffs since 2006.

The key for the Storm to pull off another upset win over White Castle Bulldogs tonight is the running game of Kavarius Whitehead. Storm Head Coach Blake Wheeler said Whitehead did a good job last week on converting third and fourth downs, keeping drives alive and running the ball effectively.

In last week’s game against the Lions, Whitehead had 20 carries, ran for 90 yards and four rushing touchdowns. He also ran for two two-point conversions and passed for one two-point conversion.

Whitehead said running for four touchdowns felt good.

“It was my first time doing that this year,” Whitehead said. “It felt good to accomplish something like that.”

This season, the Storm (4-7) are 2-4 on the road away from Delta Charter School. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs (6-3) are 3-1 at Rocky Ourso Stadium at White Castle High this season.

Kickoff for the game tonight is at 7 at White Castle High School.

Ferriday vs. Port Allen

The No. 1 Ferriday High Trojans host the No. 16 Port Allen Pelicans in tonight’s second round of the LHSAA Class 2A playoffs.

The Trojans earned their fourth shutout victory last Friday and won 58-0 over the Vinton High Lions.

In last Friday’s game, Kobe Dillon passed for two touchdowns and ran for two touchdowns. The farthest run was for 60-yards in the third quarter. Meanwhile, the farthest pass was to Elijah White for 40-yards. As a whole, the Trojans rushed for five touchdowns in the game.

A key for the Trojans (10-1) to continue their 10-game winning streak is having a good offensive line and for Dillon to rush for more touchdowns in the game.

The Pelicans (5-6) come into tonight’s game after earning a 29-6 win over the Rayville High Hornets in the first round. The Rayville High Hornets are a familiar foe for the Trojans, since in the fourth week of the season. In that game, Ferriday picked up their second shutout victory of 50-0 over Rayville.

At Melz Field this season, the Trojans are 6-0. On the road, Port Allen is 1-3. Trojans Head Coach Stanley Smith said Port Allen is a good team and the Trojans need support at home.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Melz Field on the campus of Ferriday High School.
