NATCHEZ — Four teams of the MidSouth Association of Independent Schools league attempt to move farther into the playoffs.

Cathedral Green Wave

The Cathedral Green Wave won 44-18 over Winston Academy to advance to the Quarterfinals round for the first time. Cathedral will travel to the No. 3 seed in Wayne Academy Jaguars of the Class 4A playoffs.

In preparation for Cathedral’s Quarterfinals round game tonight, Head Coach Chuck Darbonne said the Green Wave have stayed true to the plan of working on our fundamentals and fixing the mistakes from last week.

“We weren’t consistent throwing the ball, broke down coverage in the secondary and we got lost a little bit with what we were looking at which caused some big plays for Winston Academy,” said Darbonne about last week’s game.

The Jaguars come off of a bye week since winning District 3. In Wayne Academy’s last game on Oct. 25 against Winston Academy, the Jaguars quarterback Brylee Wall threw two touchdowns and 184 passing yards. Wall completed six passes out of 16 attempts.

“The Jaguars played some of the better schools in our association early on and played some tough competition,” Darbonne said. “They faired well and they’re a tough team. You’re not going to win a district and not be a bad team.”

In the Green Wave’s first round game against Winston Academy, J.C. Harris ran for four touchdowns and 263 rushing yards. Bryson Moore ran for two touchdowns on 14 carries with 144 rushing yards.

On defense, Kaden Batieste ran an interception for a touchdown. Jalen Moore had one sack and Land Lees led the team with six tackles. Darbonne said he’s excited to see his senior and junior leaders experience another week of playing football.

“I know these guys are taking every opportunity over this whole season from the summer onto now to better themselves and put themselves in a great position for the opportunity they have now,” Darbonne said. “I’m so happy for those kids and the work they have put in. I can’t wait to see the results tonight.”

Kickoff is set for 7 tonight at Wayne Academy.

Adams County Christian School Rebels

The Rebels came away with a convincing 41-10 win over St. Aloysius last Friday in the first round of the MAIS Class 5A at ACCS. Adams County Christian School travels to face Silliman Institute Wildcats.

This is the second time the two schools are facing each other. The first game between the Rebels and Wildcats was on Oct. 27 in which the Wildcats cruised to a 26-0 win.

In the Oct. 27 game, the Wildcats passed for 191 yards and rushed for 125 yards. Blake LePrairie said the Rebels need to stop the passing game rather than the rushing game.

“That’s mainly what they used last time to beat us,” said LePrairie. “As long as we can stop the pass and the run, we’ll be straight.”

In tonight’s game, Rebels Head Coach David King said he wants his team to hold onto the ball, limit penalties and turnovers.

“Teams that advance in the playoffs and win state championships, don’t make mistakes,” King said. “We made too many mistakes in the first game against the Wildcats. We also have to contend with some very fine skill-level players they have. They are a faster team than we are. We have to control the ball and impose our will on them.”

Centreville Academy Tigers

The No. 10 seeded Centreville Academy Tigers came away with an upset 30-22 victory over Greenville Christian in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs.

Centreville scored four times in the game compared to Greenville Christian, which scored three times.

The Tigers will travel to face the No. 2 seed Winona Christian Stars. The game starts at 7 tonight at Winona Christian.

Wilkinson County Christian Academy Rams

The Rams come into the MAIS Class 1A 8-Man playoffs as the No. 3 seed. They will host the No. 6 seed in the Prairie View Academy Spartans.

The Rams are 3-0 at home while the Spartans are 3-2 on the road.

The game is set to start at 7 p.m. today at WCCA.
