NATCHEZ — Since starting in the Pre-K 3 class at Cathedral School, Fisher Iseminger said her life has revolved around Cathedral.

When The Dart landed near Cathedral High on Thursday afternoon, Iseminger was painting a green sign with black paint for the MidSouth Association of Independent Schools home playoff game between the Cathedral High Green Wave and the Winston Academy Patriots.

Iseminger, 17, said painting signs is a new tradition this year for Cathedral.

“Each grade has a separate hallway and they have to decorate the hallway for school spirit,” Iseminger said.

Iseminger is the fourth generation from her family to attend Cathedral. Her parents, Barry and Paige Iseminger, are also involved with Cathedral. Paige Iseminger teaches Pre-K 3 year olds at Cathedral Elementary School.

Barry Iseminger is the Vice President of the C Club and is part of the softball and football field and paint crew. Barry Iseminger runs the scoreboard at basketball games and helps with anything else that needs to be done at the school.

Besides her family’s involvement, Fisher Iseminger said Cathedral is like a family as well. For instance, at Cathedral high school students are paired with kindergarteners in their junior year.

In Fisher Iseminger’s junior year, she was paired with Brooklynn Williams. This program is called Kindergarten Buddies.

“We get to do activities with them once a month, if not more,” Iseminger said. “This creates a connection with them.”

Another way Cathedral creates a family atmosphere is having all grades on one campus. Fisher Iseminger said she likes having all of the grades on one campus.

“Whenever we have stuff, we do them together and it creates a family atmosphere for us,” Fisher Iseminger said. “I also think that it’s cool to have the elementary school kids look up to the high school kids. They can do that because they see us every day at school.”

At Cathedral, Fisher Iseminger is involved in a variety of clubs and athletics. She is involved in the Key Club, peer mentors and National Honor Society. Fisher Iseminger also is the team captain for both the softball and dance teams. Fisher Iseminger said she ran cross country and is the bat girl for the Green Wave baseball team.

“I think sports teach a lot of people about responsibility,” Fisher Iseminger said. “You have to be on top of everything and have all of your stuff together. You have to make time for school first because you have to keep your grades up. But then you also have to work together as a team and be part of the team. I like being part of a team because it pushes me to do better.”

Once Fisher Iseminger graduates from Cathedral in May, she said she’s going to miss the sporting events and all of the fans.

“Everybody is so supportive of one another,” Fisher Iseminger said. “I’m going to miss my teams because we’re all so close, and we get along with each other so well. I’m going to miss my friends and all of the traditions we have at Cathedral. Since we’re a small school, we get to do everything and we keep the traditions going. At college, I wouldn’t be able to have those traditions.”
