NATCHEZ — Behind two touchdown passes by D.J. Stampley, the Adams County Christian School Rebels pull off a 41-10 win against St. Aloysius Flashes in the first round of the MidSouth Association of Independent School Class 5A playoffs on Friday night.

Four minutes and three seconds after Claven Dunbar scored a 37-yard touchdown run, Stampley threw his first touchdown pass to Wes Stockstill for 27 yards with 5:37 in the first quarter. Stampley threw another touchdown pass to Glaston Magee for 7-yards in the first quarter.

Corey Sewell scored a 60-yard touchdown run. The Rebels rushed for 195 yards and passed for 60 yards. Rebels Head Coach David King said the Rebels needed to become a more balanced team in the playoffs.

“We have been working on our passing game at practices to prepare for this game,” King said. “It’s not something that’s our strength. We have done better at it in practice. I think we got out there tonight, and we were able to get Glaston back out there. He’s a good receiver.”

Magee played in his first game after a shoulder injury sidelined him for three games in the beginning of the season. A concussion injury sidelined Magee.

“It felt amazing to be playing again,” Glaston said. “It was surely my best last game I can ever ask for in Bobby Marks Stadium.”

On a fourth down punt in the first quarter, Blake LePrairie blocked the Flashes Kieran Theriot’s punt, and Magee returned the block punt for a touchdown.

The Rebels’ defense also came up huge in Friday night’s playoffs game against the Flashes. The defense only held the Flashes to two first downs.

Dantavious Stampley led the Rebels with six tackles. Rhett McDonald and VJ Knight tied with five tackles. Jonathan Ratliff and LePrairie each obtained four tackles.

Dunbar and Decobus Jackson each intercepted the Flashes once.

“We showed out tonight,” said Magee about the Rebels’ defensive performance. “We have been preaching all week in how we have to make plays. When the opportunity comes, be there and make a play on the ball.”

Friday night was the second time ACCS beat St. Aloysius this season. King said the Flashes were not at full strength.

“Bottom line, I’m very proud of the team,” King said. “The Flashes are a very athletic football team we beat tonight. Hopefully we got out of this game injury free and we will give Silliman a better completion than we did last time.”

The Rebels move onto the second round of the MAIS Class 5A playoffs. The second round game is at Silliman Institute 7 p.m. Friday night.
