NATCHEZ — Adams County Christian School Rebels and Cathedral Green Wave begin the first round of the MidSouth Association of Independent Schools at home on Friday.

After winning the Class 3A state championship, the Rebels were moved up to Class 5A for this season.

The Rebels ended the season with a 7-3 overall record and 1-1 in District 3-5A. ACCS earned the No. 6 seed in the Class 5A playoffs.

Rebels Head Coach David King said the season could have been worse or could have been better.

“We have had a good season up to this point,” King said. “We have had some ups and downs with some key injuries, which are part of the game. We had to shift some players around from positions they normally don’t play. It has made for an interesting season.”

The Rebels lost the regular-season finale 33-19 last Friday against Central Hinds Academy. On the bench, were seven starters who were injured with various injuries.

“Out of the seven we had out, we’re pretty confident we’re going to have four of the seven back and possibly a fifth player,” King said about the injured players. “That’s just to see how they look in practice on Wednesday. Then, we’ll make a decision.”

The Rebels will host the No. 11 seed in St. Aloysius Flashes of Vicksburg (5-5, 2-1 District 3-5A). The Rebels won 40-23 against the Flashes on Oct. 11. King said the Flashes weren’t at their full strength on Oct. 11.

“Now, we’re not going to be at full strength when we’re going to face them this week. The tables have turned,” King said. “They’re an explosive ball club. At any level, it’s hard to beat somebody twice in a row. We’re glad to be playing at home and still be playing. I always tell my team to never take anything for granted to play in the playoffs.”

The game will start at 7 p.m. Friday at Bobby Marks Stadium on the campus of ACCS.

Cathedral High Green Wave

The Green Wave ended the regular season with a 7-3 overall record and 2-2 in the MAIS District 4-4A play. Cathedral earned the No. 6 seed in the Class 4A playoffs.

The Green Wave will host the No. 11 seed of Winston Academy Patriots (2-3, 1-4 District 2-4A).

Green Wave Head Coach Chuck Darbonne said hosting a playoff game cuts down the travel time and there’s more fans at home games supporting the Green Wave.

“Having a home game to start the playoffs is a huge advantage which we haven’t had since I have been here,” Darbonne said. “Having the home crowd behind you helps. We’re pretty excited about that part of it.”

In the first round of playoffs, the Green Wave are 10-13 while the Patriots are 13-5. The last state championship won by Cathedral was in 2014 while Winston Academy won the state championship in 2000.

Darbonne said the Green Wave have never faced Winston Academy before in school history.

“Winston Academy is a school with an athletic-rich tradition,” Darbonne said. “It’s a very quality program with a good head coach. They do the things right there.”

The kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday at D’Evereux Stadium on the campus of Cathedral High.

Centreville Academy Tigers

Centreville Academy Tigers ended the season with an overall record of 3-6 and 2-1 in District 3-3A play.

The Tigers are the No. 10 seed in the Class 3A playoffs. Centreville Academy will travel to the No. 7 seed Greenville Christian High Saints (4-5, 0-1 District 4-3A).

In the first round of playoffs, the Tigers are 23-8 while the Saints are 2-9.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Greenville Christian High School.
