FERRIDAY — Both Ferriday High Trojans and Mangham High Dragons come into tonight’s game being the only two undefeated teams in district play in Louisiana High School Athletics Association District 2 Class 2A.

The Trojans will travel to the Dragons. On the road this season, Ferriday High is 3-1 while the Dragons are 3-0 at home.

Trojans Head Coach Stanley Smith said the Trojans are approaching this game as the District 2 championship.

“Whoever wins tomorrow night’s game is going to be in the drivers seat for the district title,” Smith said. “That’s how we’re going to approach it. We’re going in with a focused mind and an attitude to come out with a victory.”

Ferriday High comes into tonight’s game on a six-game winning streak, the longest winning streak in District 2-2A. The Trojans won 50-6 on last Friday night against Vidalia High Vikings.

In last Friday’s game against Vidalia, Kobe Dillon ran for two touchdowns and passed for one touchdown. The longest run touchdown run in the game for Dillon was for 20-yards.

“He has to be perfect every night,” Smith said about Dillon. “He’s the quarterback and our offense goes through him. He has to make the right reads and get better handoffs. There’s a lot on his plate. He has to come out focused and play a great game.”

The Trojans defense shined in the game against the Vikings as well. Kylyn Lewis had eight tackles, three tackles for losses and two sacks.

Another defensive player who shined was Blake Tarver. Tarver obtained seven tackles, three tackles for losses and two sacks.

“They have been feeding off of each other for the past two years,” Smith said about Lewis and Tarver. “They push each other and work on their technique. They work hard to get their technique down.”

The Trojans were six for six on two-point conversions in the game against Vidalia. Smith said the Trojans kick the ball well during practice, but it’s a different story when the Trojans play under the lights and in front of a crowd on Friday nights.

“We have been converting our two-point conversations at a higher enough ratio,” Smith said. “We’re going to continue to build on it.”

Two of the players to watch for the Dragons is quarterback Kaleb Pleasant and running back Joe Williams. Smith said Pleasant and Williams are the one-two punch for the Dragons.

“We have to make sure on defense that we contain those two,” Smith said. “Defensively, the Dragons are doing a lot of different alignments. When we come to the line of scrimmage, we have to make sure what alignment their in and make sure we carry out our blocking assignments.”

The game is set to start at 7 p.m. today at Mangham High School.
