NATCHEZ — Due to anticipated rain on Friday, the Natchez High School homecoming parade was is moved to 5 p.m. today.

“You can play football in the rain as long it’s not thundering and lightening,” Alphaka Moore, Athletic Director of Natchez High School and Adams-County School District said. “As far as the parade, you can’t have rain during the parade. We moved the parade to today.”

The Natchez homecoming parade route is going to go up Franklin Street, across M.L.K. Jr. Road and down Jefferson Street. Captain Tom McGehee said people should prepare to go an alternate route home.

In the homecoming parade this year, Moore said there’s going to be many different floats from alumni classes.

“Each school is going to be represented in the parade,” Moore said. “Some activities and clubs will be represented too.”

Also part of homecoming festivities is a pep rally at 9 a.m. Friday at Natchez High. The pep rally is open to the public and tailgating begins at 9 a.m. as well.

Then at 5 p.m., alumni will have a meet-and-greet and then the Natchez High vs West Jones High football game will start at 7 p.m.

Part of the homecoming parade, Moore said Jackson County, Wilkerson County and Natchez High bands will march in the parade, weather permitting.

“I think it’s great to show the community and for the community to be involved and see the kids to see their achievements for homecoming,” Moore said.

  Moore said Natchez High has held a homecoming parade for many years. The beginning date, Moore said she couldn’t tell.

“Although the weather has kind of changed things, we’re looking forward to seeing everyone,” Moore said. “Homecoming is a time full of moments, to celebrate memories and the tradition of Natchez High School. We’re looking forward to see all of our alum come back and be willing to be part of everything.”
