NATCHEZ— Services for Lynda Joe Martin Williams, 76, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2019, in Natchez, will be noon Saturday at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church No. 1 with the Rev. Joe W. Pickett officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 to 5:30 p.m. today at the funeral home with a celebration of life wake service at 5:30 p.m.
Mrs. Williams was born May 17, 1943, in Columbia, the daughter of Johnie Martin and Ethel Martin.
She graduated from high school and furthered her education and received a master’s degree from Alcorn State University. Lynda was a retired educator in Natchez and Vidalia. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church where she served with the Missionary Society, Hospitality Ministry, Veteran’s Program, Pastor’s Appreciation Committees, Sunday school and Bible study. She also was a member of the NAACP, Retired Teachers Association, Links Inc., and the SVT “Era” Reunion Committee. Lynda enjoyed exercising, volunteering, reading, cooking and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Francis Andrews; and four brothers, Terry, Ronald, Richard and Vincent Martin.
Survivors include one son, Casey Williams; three grandchildren, Orsis, Jada and Omar Williams; one brother, Larry Martin and wife, Patricia; three sisters, Sherri Ellis, Marilyn Martin and husband, Marvin, and Grace Tumah; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you bring school supplies, children’s books for ages K-6thgrades. There will be a receptacle for the items at the services on Saturday as well as her home through Sunday evening. These items will be distributed to schools in Natchez and Vidalia and to Zion Hill Baptist Church No. 1 youth programs in honor of Lynda Joe Williams.
