FERRIDAY — Ferriday High School Trojans and Vidalia High School Vikings rivalry has been going on a long time.

“It’s a big time rivalry between the two schools. If you’re in Concordia Parish, then you have to pick which side you are on,” Trojans Head Coach Stanley Smith said about the rivalry game against Vidalia. “All of the records are out the window because it’s such a big game. The fans are doing more talking than the players and coaches. It’s a big deal to the community but for us it’s just the next game.”

In last Friday’s 60-0 win over Madison Parish High School, Elijah White caught the ball four times for 112 yards and scored a touchdown. One of Whites’ touchdowns was on a 68-yard pass from Kobe Dillon.

“We have been putting up a lot of points against teams but we haven’t been scoring the ball to our fullest potential,” White said about the lack of execution. “I think we can put up 80 points against Vidalia.” White said he remembers watching the game two years ago from the sidelines as the Vikings defeated the Trojans.

“I was a freshman … The whole week of practice we were thinking we were going to beat them,” White said about facing the Vikings two years ago. “In the game, they were giving everything, and they got what they earned. Nobody is supposed to beat us on this field. The last time we faced them on this field they beat us.”

Smith said the Vikings have been doing a great job at running the ball.

“We have to make sure we have the right defense in our defensive scheme to stop the Vikings running game,” Smith said about the Trojans preparation at practices. “On offense, we have to make sure we carry out our proper blocking assignments and making our proper reads.”

The Vikings come into Friday’s game on a four-game losing streak and are 1-2 on the road. The Vikings lost 13-12 in last Friday’s game against District 2 foe General Trass High School. Vidalia (1-5, 0-2 District 2-2A) is in seventh out of eight teams in the District 2 standings.

Meanwhile, the Trojans are on a five-game winning streak and are 2-0 at Meiz Field this season. Ferriday (5-1, 2-0) are in first place out of eight teams in the District 2 standings.

Kickoff for the game is at 7 p.m. Friday at Meiz Field.
