NATCHEZ– Graveside services for J.C. Smith, 88, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2019, at River Bridge Specialty Hospital in Vidalia, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Natchez City Cemetery.
Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at Laird Funeral Home.
Mr. Smith was born Jan. 30, 1931, in Liberty, the son of Ovilton Smith and R.E. Whittington Smith.
J.C. Smith served in the U.S. Army. He always had a smile on his face and a great sense of humor. He was a hard-working man and was loved by many. He worked for Premo Stallone for 40 years while getting up every morning at 3 a.m. to throw 600 newspapers. He referred to himself as having a mean hook while throwing the Democrat. After leaving Premo Stallone, he worked at Natchez Regional in the maintenance department. After retiring from Natchez Regional, he helped his son, Thomas, at the nursery and planting his garden. He enjoyed serving and delivering meals on Wednesday nights at Parkway Baptist Church. He loved the City of Natchez.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Christine Smith; one brother, Melvin Smith; one sister, Eunabell Thornton; and one grandson, Dustin Lanehart.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Buchanan and husband, Pat, of Ridgeland; one son, Thomas Smith and wife, Rhonda, of Natchez; two grandchildren, Sara Buchanan of Flowood and Chelsea Smith Anding and husband, Garrett, of Natchez; one great-grand daughter, Mackenzie Claire Anding; and one brother, J.E. Smith and wife, Lottie, of Natchez.
