FERRIDAY— Services for the Rev. Thess Baker Jr., 78, of Jonesville, who died Monday, Sept. 30, 2019, at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, Louisiana, will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Word of Faith Ambassador Outreach in Ferriday.
Burial will follow at Old Daughters Baptist Church Cemetery in Wildsville, Louisiana, under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Old Daughters Baptist Church in Wildsville.
Rev. Baker was born Oct. 27, 1940, in Lismore, Louisiana, the son Thess Alonia Sr. and Alica Kandia Baker.
Rev. Baker pastored a number of churches at the time of his death. His sermons will now be memories by his host of members at the Old Daughters Baptist Church, New Mount Olive Baptist Church and Moss Grove Baptist Church, both in Jonesville, Zion Baptist Church in Foules, Louisiana, and Evening Star Baptist Church in Ferriday.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nina Maxine Baker; his parents; two sisters, Dorothy Young and Creola Kansas-Tate; and one brother-in-law, Raymond Calice Sr.
Survivors include three sons, Roderick Baker and wife, Dianne, of Houston, Thess Baker III and wife, Pattrell, and Mickey Myles, all of Jonesville; two daughters, Cheryln Hatten of Harrisonnburg, Louisiana, and Miranda Baker of New Orleans; three brothers, Huey Baker of Los Angeles, Henry Baker and wife, Ineatha, and Robert “Bob” Baker and wife, Cora, all of Jonesville; three sisters, Mildred Johnson and husband, Henry, of Greensboro, North Carolina, Nora Calice of Jonesville, and Esther Baker of Greensboro; eight grandchildren, Alysia Baker, Gherilyn Wright, Thess Baker IV, Ariyan Fax, Rylie Baker, Derek Sewell and Jacque Coleman; five brothers-in-law, Perry Harbor and wife, Annie, of Monroe, Louisiana, Crownie Harbor and wife, Katie, of Jonesville, Louie Tate of Greensboro, Gerald Young of Baton Rouge, and Frank Smith of New Orleans; one sister-in-law, Estelle Williams of New Orleans; mother-in-law, Stella Harbor of Jonesville; and a number of other family, church family members, friends, nieces, nephews and cousins.
