NATCHEZ — The Adams County Christian School Rebels will travel to face the Copiah Academy Colonels on Friday night.
After a loss to Jackson Preparatory School Patriots last week (37-0), which snapped the Rebels 18-game winning streak, ACCS begins Class 5A District 3 play against the Colonels. The Rebels have won seven straight District 3 Championships.
Head coach David King said Friday is the game the Rebels need to win.
“Anything we have done to this point is just dress rehearsal for this ball game,” King said. “Right now, we’re still a work in progress like everyone else. We feel like there’s some good things we have going and other things we need to work on.”
In the last game against the Patriots, the Rebels were held to 103 yards of total offense. Running back and noseguard D.J. Stampley had five carriers for 25 yards and running back Corey Sewell had eight carries and 21 yards. Defensively, Yohan Thompson had six tackles and one interception. King said this week at practices he’s focusing on repetition.
“We just want to prepare the best we can and make sure we got a good game plan for them,” King said. “Our coaches are excited. We didn’t have our best week last week. I think our players are excited.”
One of the players for the Colonels (2-2) the Rebels (3-1) need to stop is running back Triston Hayles. King said Hayles is one of the best players in the MidSouth Association of Independent Schools.
The kickoff is set to start at 7 p.m. on Friday at Copiah Academy.
