Has your date night reached a dead end due to disagreements over what show to watch? Do you argue over whether to watch a horror or a comedy?
If the answer to these questions is yes, then we have the perfect solution for you. The Natchez Little Theatre is proud to present George A Romero’s, “Night Of The Living Dead ™ Live,” written by Christopher Bond, Dale Boyer and Trevor Martin; created by Christopher Harrison and Phil Pattison. From Sept. 20 until Oct. 6 you can come see our latest production at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights with our last performance at 2 p.m. Oct. 6.
The 1960s were a time of social and political chaos. The year 1968 brought an end to the Hays Code, which authorized movies for theatres based on what was considered “moral” for the time, and brought on the current rating system.
This policy was considered rather liberating to screenwriters and filmmakers and George A. Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead” came to the cinema that very year. It took filmmaking freedom to a whole new level and created quite a stir.
This was the civil rights era and the protagonist was an African American man. This was completely unheard of at that time. As a horror film its special effects were too realistic. The most puzzling and controversial aspect of the film was the ending. Everyone dies!
The play, tells the same story as the film. However, the play takes on a “Clue” like twist using the strengths and weaknesses of each character to portray various alternate scenarios. It tackles both racism and sexism, like what if women were in charge? It shows the flaws in each character and in mankind as a whole.
The show features a wonderful cast that will leave you with a greater appreciation for the cult classic “The Night of the Living Dead.” This extremely talented and dedicated cast has volunteered several hours to learn their lines and staging.
Please come out and support all of their hard work. I promise you will be entertained, because we are amazing when “We all Work Together,” like the cast and crew of this production do.
