Congratulations, Habitat for Humanity

Natchez-Adams County Habitat for Humanity handed over keys to the organization’s 23rd house in a ceremony Sunday afternoon.

That is no small feat — completing one house, much less 23 — especially using volunteer labor and donated supplies.

The goal of Habitat for Humanity is to help people have a decent place to live and call home.

People who benefit from the Habitat for Humanity homeownership program must participate in the building process alongside the organization’s volunteers.

In order to qualify to purchase one of the homes, the homebuyer must contribute 250 labor hours to the construction, including 150 personal hours.

Once the house is completed, Habitat for Humanity sells it to the participant and finances the sale at 0% interest.

Latrice Carroll was the recipient of the Natchez-Adams County Habitat for Humanity’s 23rd house, and she said she knows how blessed she is to benefit from the program.

Participants in the program learn the value of hard work and what it takes to become a homeowner, more so than many homeowners will ever know

We commend the dedicated leadership of the Natchez-Adams County Habitat for Humanity for their years of dedicated labor to making the program a success here and helping people such as Carroll achieve the dream of homeownership.

Congratulations to all and best of luck with the 24th house.

We hope the organization will do many more beyond that.
