NATCHEZ — During a special-called meeting Thursday afternoon, the Adams County Board of Supervisors entered into executive session to discuss industrial and economic prospects.

Attendees to Thursday’s meeting included Chandler Russ, executive director of Natchez Inc. and Jeff Beasley of CoreCivic.

Adams County Attorney Scott Slover said the supervisors discussed two items, one of which pertained to the potential sale of land at the former International Paper industrial site and the other regarding the Adams County Correctional Facility located on U.S. 84 east of Natchez.

Slover said the board did take action pertaining to the later subject with the majority of supervisors present and supervisor Angela Hutchins present by conference call.

Slover declined to comment on the action taken and deferred to CoreCivic, which he said would make an announcement soon.

CoreCivic officials said they did not have any announcements late Thursday afternoon.

The 2,232-bed facility is owned and operated by CoreCivic and employs approximately 380 people, including guards and medical professionals.

CoreCivic had previously contracted with Federal Bureau of Prisons to house inmates to other facilities; the Adams County facility is steadily being filled by inmates. However, announced in May that FBP would not be renewing their contract which would expire next month.

Public affairs director Amanda Gilchrist said CoreCivic had no announcement regarding the status of their contract as of Thursday afternoon.

No other actions were taken during Thursday’s meeting.
