Concordia Parish candidate forum Thursday

VIDALIA — The Concordia Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a candidate forum Thursday at the Vidalia Conference and Convention Center at 112 Front Street.
The forum starts at 6 p.m. Thursday and will include candidates vying for the clerk of court, police jury and the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s positions in the primary election Oct. 12, said Tance Hughes, chamber president.
“This is probably the only place for the public to meet and see most of the candidates at one time before the election,” Hughes said of Thursday’s forum.
Hughes said 32 candidates are vying for the nine district seats on the police jury combined, adding each of those candidates who attend Thursday night’s forum will be given at least 2 minutes to present their campaign platform.
The remainder of Thursday night’s participants — including four candidates for sheriff and three for clerk of court — will speak in a question-answer format.
Each candidate will be asked the same questions, Hughes said.
Louisiana journalist, Sam Hannah Jr. will serve as a moderator for Thursday night’s forum, Hughes said.
“This is a forum and not a debate, so none of the candidates will be allowed to respond to another’s statements,” Hughes said. “We are simply going to pose a question to the candidates and each will have multiple questions to answer.”
