Nov. 30, 1930 – Aug. 12, 2019

MEADVILLE— Graveside services for Rosie Gearldean Oglesby, 88, of Natchez, who died Monday, Aug. 12, 2019, at Southwest Regional Medical Center in McComb, will be 10:30 a.m. today at Providence Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Johnny Wayne Dillion officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Oglesby was born Nov. 30, 1930, in Franklin County, and raised on Hominy Ridge and lived all but the last five years of her adult life in Natchez. She was the daughter of Houston Bluford Stroud and Francis Ota Stroud.
She dearly loved her family. She had such a special place in her heart for her mother and daddy and was a loving aunt and loving sister to Lonnie and Ruby.
She delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and nourished them with love and food. She was known by all for her chicken and dumplings, biscuits, tomato gravy and an abundance of pecan pies. Spending the night at Grandmother’s and Pa’s and waking up to a hot biscuit with butter and sugar was a joy each grandchild treasured — a family gathering was not complete until grandmother’s chicken and dumplings were on your plate. She was talented at the sewing machine and she loved to watch a baseball game, loved it even more if one of her own was on the field. Her love was a treasure to us all and will soothe us as we grieve her passing.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Howell Leon Oglesby; her parents; one brother, Lonnie Stroud; and one sister, Ruby Smith.
Survivors include two sons, Jowell Randolph Oglesby and wife, Dana, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Keith Leon Oglesby and wife, Tammy, of Natchez; one daughter, Marsha Ratcliff and husband, Roger, of Bude; six grandchildren, Kyle Oglesby and Anna Kniphfer and husband, Andrew, all of Tuscaloosa, Rose Scherer and husband, Daniel, of Amarillo, Texas, Ryan Ratcliff and wife, Amy, of Flowood, Rachael Oglesby-Hall and husband, Milton, of Lexington, South Carolina, and Daniel Oglesby and wife, Tasha, of Natchez; and 12 great-grandchildren, Emma Kniphfer, Noah Scherer, Sophie Scherer, London Scherer, Roman Scherer, Paisley Ratcliff, Kinley Ratcliff, Eli Oglesby, Aubrey Oglesby, Sam Hall and Charlie Hall.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Oglesby, Daniel Oglesby, Ryan Ratcliff, Andrew Knipher, Milton Hall and Daniel Scherer.
