Candidates qualify in parish for upcoming election

VIDALIA — When Concordia Parish voters go to the polls this year they will elect a new sheriff, new clerk of court and at least two new police jurors.

After the qualifying deadline ended Thursday, more than 30 candidates qualified to run for the nine seats on the Concordia Parish Police Jury.

Two incumbents, Joseph Parker Sr. in District 1B and Adam Probst in District 3A will run unopposed. Incumbents Whest Shirley in District 3B and Tommy Tifee in District 5B announced they would not run for re-election.

Four candidates have qualified to run for Concordia Parish Sheriff and three candidates have qualified for clerk of court. Both Sheriff Kenneth Hedrick and Clerk of Court Clyde Ray Webber previously announced that they were not running for re-election.

The primary election is slated for Oct. 12 and the general election is set for Nov. 16.
