The Miss-Lou welcomed back one of its own on Saturday morning with an escort unmatched in recent memory.

Concordia Parish Deputy Walter Mackel returned to Concordia Parish after being released from the hospital. A week prior, Mackel was shot while investigating an armed robbery at a Vidalia apartment complex.

On Saturday, Mackel was led by a long escort of squad cars, ambulances, fire trucks and other vehicles.

In other good news fro the week:

4Robert Lewis Middle School student Angelica King recently brought home a first prize award in Language Arts at the National Beta Convention in Oklahoma City.

King said she was excited about the award, especially since she had been to the national convention once before, but didn’t place. King hopes she can be an inspiration to other people and aspire to pursue a career in medicine.

4The Historic Natchez Foundation is partnering with the Mississippi Department of Archives and History and the Natchez National Historical Park to participate in a landmark study of existing antebellum outbuilding in Adams County. Texas A&M architecture professor Brent Fortenberry is helping document what is possibly the richest resource of Pre-Civil War outbuilding in the United States. With more than 235 outhouses, barns, slave cabins, carriage houses and other outbuildings, Fortenberry, HNF and others have just started. When complete, the project will be one of the most significant studies of agricultural buildings in the country.
