NATCHEZ — Football camp will be held at Dee Faircloth Field on today and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon and is open to boys ages 5-14.
For the past four years the Vidalia youth football camp has been organized by newly retired football coach Dee Faircloth, a coaching legend at Vidalia High School.
This year, Faircloth’s nephew Rob Faircloth has not only taken over the camp but has also taken over the job as head football coach at Vidalia High School as well.
“For this year I created a practice plan for the team,” Rob Faircloth said. “I want our entire team out there helping.”
Assistant coach and Junior High Head Coach Henry Garner along with offensive coordinator Kale Davis will get the chance to supervise their high school squad and find out how they interact with much younger kids who want to train with a real team and be a part of it during the football camp, Faircloth said.
More than 40 children have already signed up to be there for the two days.
“This is a free camp,” Rob Faircloth said. “We want more, anybody not signed up can just come on out Wednesday or Thursday.”
Every football camp is going to put young football players through what the big boys go through.
“We are going to be in the weight room first thing, showing proper technique, then we will do some stretching,” Rob Faircloth said. “We will divide everybody up by age in order to have our speed and agility drills. Then we will run some offensive plays. We will have the same message throughout the day on working hard, both on and off the field.”
