NATCHEZ— Joyce Calhoun Borum, 84, died peacefully Saturday afternoon, July 20, 2019, at her home with her family surrounding her.   
There will be a time for visitation Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Laird Funeral.
We will gather to remember Joyce’s faithful and fruitful life at a service Wednesdayat 11 a.m. in the sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church in Natchez with the Rev. Joan W. Gandy officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday in Stratton Chapel.
At noon, after the graveside service at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, the family invites you to a luncheon in the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall to celebrate Joyce’s life.
Joyce was born in Wisner, Louisiana, and moved to Natchez with her family when her father started working at Armstrong Tire Company. She graduated from Natchez High School and later married Dr. Charles Spurgeon Borum and worked with him in the dental clinic as receptionist and chairside assistant. She raised four children and was an all-around “Super mom.” She was a Cub Scout den mother, Girl Scout leader, Church youth leader, mother to three Eagle Scouts and a life member of Natchez Little Theatre.
Joyce was baptized at age 12 at Westside Baptist Church in Natchez. As an adult, she and her husband were very active Presbyterians. She was a leader with the Presbyterian Women of the Church. She was active for a number of years on the board of directors of Natchez Stewpot — and until recent years, continued to supply many bags of bread for those meals. She was ordained as an Elder at Westminster Presbyterian Church Natchez. She had been an active member of the Discipleship Sunday School class and regularly attended Sunday worship and Wednesday night fellowship and Bible study at First Presbyterian Church Natchez right up until her last week.
After the death of her husband, Charles, she married Mathew Julian “Son” Batey. She enjoyed a number of years with him and made many close friends at First Baptist Church in Wisner.

She was preceded in death by husband, Charles S. Borum and husband, Matthew “Son” Batey; her parents, Nathan Daniel Calhoun Sr. and Nancy Virginia Hall Calhoun.
Survivors include four children, Dr. Charles Daniel Borum and wife, Christine, Dr. Thomas Archer Borum and wife, Rose, Alan Calhoun Borum and Joyce Marie Borum;
four grandchildren, Jonathan Patrick Borum and wife, Jennifer, Katherine “Katie” Elizabeth Borum, Virginia “Ginny” Marie Borum and Alexandra Anne Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Hollin Anderson and Melody Marble; one sister, Bobbie Jean Easterling and husband, Lynwood; one brother, Nathan Daniel Calhoun Jr. and wife, Elizabeth; eight nephews, Rusty Easterling and wife, Merilyn, Rowe Easterling, Gabriel Easterling and wife, Kimberly, Nathan Easterling, James Moffett and wife, Kristyn, Nicholas Stogner, Michael Chase Patrick, Christopher Borum, all of Elk River, Minnesota, and Owen Borum of Boulder, Colorado; and three nieces, Virginia “Ginger” Moffett and husband, Jimmy, Jessica Moffett and Jayna Stogner.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Borum, Rusty Easterling, Gabriel Easterling, Nathan Easterling, James Moffett and Drew Thompson.
Honorary pallbearer will be Rowe Easterling.
Special thanks to the sitters from Heart2Heart agency, the nurses of Deaconess Home Health agency and Compassus hospice agency.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Natchez Little Theatre and Natchez Stewpot.
