NATCHEZ— Services for Sandra Gibson, 81, who died Wednesday, July 17, 2019, in Dacula, Georgia, near her daughter’s home, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ken Swearingen officiating.
Burial will be 1 p.m. at Belah Cemetery in Jena, Louisiana, under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Gibson was born June 21, 1938, in Okolona, the daughter of Sam C. Lloyd Sr. and Cora Mae Johnson Lloyd.
She was a 1956 graduate of Greenville High School and a 1960 graduate of Mississippi State College for Women with a bachelor of science degree. Later she received her master of science degree from Delta State University.
Previously married to Charles “Bubba” Davidson of Natchez, she was known to many high school students as Mrs. Davidson, as she served as a high school English teacher, journalism teacher, guidance counselor, cheerleader sponsor and newspaper sponsor at various schools in Natchez. In 1979, she became the director of admissions for Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Natchez, serving 25 years, including one year as interim dean.
In 1998, she married Dr. G.C. Gibson and they built a home together on Lake Concordia in Ferriday. Mrs. Gibson was an active member of the Ferriday Garden Club and the First Presbyterian Church in Ferriday where she served as an elder and created a monthly church newsletter.
Most recently, Mrs. Gibson became a resident of Arbor Terrace at Hamilton Mill in Dacula. Her family is very grateful to the loving and caring staff of Arbor Terrace, as well as Agape Hospice of Buford, Georgia.
Throughout her life, Mrs. Gibson was known to be gracious and kind to all. In particular, she had a special gift and desire to assist young people determine their career paths. She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Survivors include her husband of 21 years, Dr. G.C. Gibson of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Madeline Davidson Hill of New Braunfels, Texas, and Laura Davidson Merritt and husband, Blane, of Hoschton, Georgia; and four grandchildren, Trevor Hanson, Dr. Parker Merritt, Kristen Merritt Box and Leah Merritt.
Pallbearers will be Blane Merritt, Dr. Parker Merritt, Adam Box, Jim Lloyd, Mark Davidson, Brandon Creekbaum, Taylor Creekbaum and Seth Creekbaum.
