NATCHEZ — A Natchez woman faces charges of two counts of petit larceny after police said she was caught on video taking items off the front porch of a house in the area of Arrowhead Drive.
On Monday, police officers responded to a call about a potential theft in the area of Arrowhead Drive.
“The victim advised that she was asleep when she was wakened by her Ring Doorbell system,” said Walter Armstrong, Natchez police chief. “The victim accessed the camera system and observed a slim white female taking items off of her porch. The victim yelled at the suspect through the doorbell system and the subject fled the scene getting into what appeared to be a white Chevy Suburban.”
After officers arrived and were talking to the victim, the victim spotted the Suburban turning off South Raintree Street and back onto Arrowhead Drive, Armstrong said.
The officers pursued the suspect and stopped the vehicle at Arrowhead Drive and Creekbend Road.
“Officers made contact with the driver who was identified as Heather Collins,” Armstrong said. “When officers informed Ms. Collins that she had been seen on video removing the items she stated that she would return the items if she wouldn’t be taken to jail.”
However, Armstrong said that while the victim was recovering the stolen items, the victim said she noticed some of the items in Collin’s vehicle belonged to her neighbor.
“The victim’s neighbor came to the scene and identified some of her items that were in Ms. Collin’s vehicle,” Armstrong said. “Ms. Collins was arrested and charged with two counts of petit larceny. The vehicle was towed to the police station pending the investigation.”
