FERRIDAY — A Ferriday man was arrested Sunday for allegedly attacking his girlfriend and threatening her before escaping last week, police said.
Ferriday Police Department investigator Richard Madison said police arrested Jamaraa Hawkins, 18, 807 2nd St. following an incident reported at Concordia
Apartments Thursday night.
Madison said Ferriday police responded to a call at 11:10 p.m. Thursday.
The victim, Hawkins’ girlfriend, said she started to answer a knock on the door of her apartment when Hawkins allegedly pushed his way inside and pushed the her to the floor with a child in her arms, taped her mouth shut and threatened her with a box cutter.
When police arrived, Hawkins reportedly hid in a back bedroom of the residence and ran out of the room as officers approached.
“An officer initiated a taser gun, but he escaped,” Madison said.
Hawkins was arrested Sunday at his place of employment in Ferriday, Madison said, and charged him with aggravated assault, domestic violence, simple criminal damage to property, unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and resist by flight.
Hawkins was held at the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office without bond as of
Monday.
“These domestic abuse cases are happening on both sides of the river and all over the country,” Madison said. “I urge anyone who ever has any violence perpetrated against them to notify a law enforcement agency so that we can take action.”
