NATCHEZ — Delecia Carey is no longer the head of school at Trinity Episcopal Day School.
The news came after a specially called school board meeting that ended late Monday night.
School Business Manager Jackie Ezell will serve as interim head of school until a replacement is hired, board Chairman Dr. Rod Givens said.
Givens was appointed chairman at Monday’s meeting, replacing Dr. Rick Maxwell. Maxwell is now vice chairman.
Givens said though the change in administration comes very close to the start of the school year, the board is comfortable with things in Ezell’s hands.
“It’s untimely,” Givens said. “But things have already been in place, activities are already lined up. Those things will go on as planned.”
Board members contacted all of the school’s teachers Monday night to share the news.
The board will begin taking applications for the position today.
“We will look at qualified candidates for this position,” Givens said. “Typically they would have some experience in education, a master’s degree or be in pursuit of one.
“We want the best candidate that’s available. We don’t have anybody locked in.”
Ezell has served in the interim role before, approximately 10 years ago.
“She is a strong administrator, well versed and well respected by the faculty, staff and school. She’s really been the go-to person. It’s a smooth transition.”
