OXFORD— Services for Lowrey Windell Busby, who died Friday, June 14, 2019, at his home in Oxford, were 2 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2019, at the Waller Funeral Home Chapel in Oxford with the Rev. David Ard and the Rev. Charles Lipe officiating.
Mr. Busby was born in Oxford, the son of W.L. and Wanna Bland Busby.
Wendell was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. Everyone who knew him, knew his strength of character. He worked with his father for a number of years as a carpenter and then retired, after 25 years of service, from the University of Mississippi Physical Plant as a carpenter foreman. In his spare time, he enjoyed raising cattle and was also an avid hunter.
Busby was a devoted husband and father who loved his home, wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Carolyn R. Busby; three daughters, Pam Busby McNeely and husband, Jim, and Donna Busby Oliphant and husband, Lloyd, all of Oxford, and Kim Busby Cauthen and husband, Dusty, of Natchez; one sister, LaRhonda Busby Harris and husband, Freddie, of Oxford; three brothers, Jarvis Busby and wife, Mary Alice, Wilbourn Busby and wife ,Dorothy, and Dewayne Busby and wife, Melba, all of Oxford; six grandchildren, Ben McNeely and John Peyton Marquis of Oxford, Kacey McNeely Edwards of Canton, Tanner Marquis of Raleigh, N.C., Sydney Cauthen and Conner Cauthen of Natchez; and four great-grandchildren, Alice McNeely of Jonesboro, Ark., Hartley Edwards of Kosciusko, Neely Edwards and Luke Edwards of Canton.
Memorial contributions in Busby’s memory may be made to the Crippled Children’s Hospital and School, 2009 Lamar Ave., Memphis, TN 38114.
